US (2019) – Movie Review

Review of 2019 movie Us. The highly anticipated followup to Jordan Peele’s fantastic 2017 film Get Out, which was one of my top movies the year it came out.

US had some great acting with all the main leads getting to take a spin playing two versions of themselves. The cinematography and musical score was on point and fantastic. This movie had some good creepy horror moments, some fun action thriller scenes, as well as some great comedic moments, which I felt help give some much appreciated comedic relief from the overall horror tension of the film

While the movie had some really positive things going for it, and a lot of it is enjoyable and entertaining. I couldn’t get over the explanation for the doppelgangers (or the “Tethered” as they are known in the movie). I couldn’t buy into who they are, what their motivation was, what the deal with their whole world is, and I felt it created all sorts of plot holes, and it really brought down the movie overall.

Still an enjoyable ride, and worth seeing if you are really curious to see Jordan Peele’s follow up to Get Out, but it’s conclusion is kind of unsatisfying.
